Technology transfer tools

First published : Friday 28 May 2010 by Aurélie Bourrat
Digiteo is developing tools for technology transfer stakeholders in the context of the FITT project (Fostering Interregional Exchange in ICT Technology Transfer) in collaboration with seven European research organizations. The project aims at optimizing the transformation of research results into marketable products.

The first European project on ICT technology transfer

The FITT project, co-funded by the European Union (INTERREG IVB programme), is the first technology transfer project dedicated to Information and Communication Science and Technology. Launched in June 2008, it encompasses seven partners in five countries: Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the UK.

The objective is to support and promote interregional technology transfer actions to reduce the gap between research and industrial development.

Developing common tools for technology transfer stakeholders

Together, the seven partner organizations have designed the FITT toolbox (www.FITT-For-Innovation.eu), pooling methods which have been applied successfully within their technology transfer structures.
It is designed to support the work of those involved in technology transfer, combining a selection of best practices, methodologies and case studies on the following themes:
• Identification of transfer opportunities
• Intellectual Property management
• Human resources management
• Value creation
• Networking and clustering

Its modular structure allows all users to choose the tools most suited to their activity.

Complementary services are also developed by project partners:

- A Community of Practice ("ICT TechTransfer") connects professionals in the area of ICT technology transfer on LinkedIn and fosters exchange among practitioners.

- A training program will provide a customized service to address specific needs of technology transfer professionals

- A bibliography will provide a list of reference articles on all aspects of transfer.

- A white paper designed for political authorities will propose recommendations to encourage development of ICT innovation.
