Inria is an Établissement Public de Recherche à caractère Scientifique et Technologique (EPST; French public scientific and technological research institute) under the dual responsibility of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Economic Regeneration. At the crossroads between information science and mathematics, the 3,400 Inria researchers invent the digital technologies of tomorrow.
Coming from the best international universities, they creatively mix fundamental research and applied research. They work together with public and private research institutes in France and abroad and transfer the results of their work to innovative companies. The researchers from Inria’s teams published more than 4,800 articles in 2010, and are behind more than 270 active patents and 105 start-ups.
The Inria Saclay–Île-de-France centre actively collaborates in technology research and development on the Saclay plateau with its 28 teams, mostly joint teams with other partners, and the joint laboratory with Microsoft Research. Its research focuses essentially on software security and reliability, high-performance computing and Internet distributed knowledge systems, as well as modelling, simulation and optimisation of complex dynamic systems.
