IRT SystemX

The Institut de recherche technologique (IRT; Institute for technological research) SystemX, which comprises 35 industrial partners and ten academic partners [1], was selected under the ’Investments for the Future’ call for projects. Awarded on 1 February 2012 for a period of ten years, it received a grant of €336 million.

The IRT will be a catalyst for innovation, capable of increasing, in the short term, the competitiveness of manufacturers, particularly that of mid-sized companies and SMEs.

Making businesses more competitive

By bringing together, in one place, academic and industrial players working in the field of engineering the digital systems of the future, the IRT SystemX aims to develop and perfect a portfolio of generic technologies and effectively distribute them across targeted sectors of the economy. By promoting the cross-over between disciplines, by permanently transforming the partnership relationship between academic players and industrial players, and by accelerating the transfer of research results to markets, the IRT will be a catalyst for innovation, capable of making industrial players, particularly mid-size companies and SMEs, more competitive.

Meeting the social challenges of the 21st century

The projects run within the IRT will make existing products and services digital; design products, systems and services with the help of digital modelling and simulation tools; and develop and operate efficient communications infrastructures. For this, the IRT runs two programmes: system of systems (multimodal transport, energy management, security and multimedia) and digital engineering technologies and tools (on-board systems, high- performance computing, cloud computing and networks, design and simulation tools).
The IRT will offer the network’s laboratories the opportunity to transfer their technologies and to integrate them in the products and services of the future.
